IDTFs and the hospital

Friday, August 8th, 2008

You have an option.  Right now as a physician, there are certain services (ultrasound, MRI, CT, and others) that you can offer in your practice.  That may be about to change.  The income from your medical billing may come down.

Some time back, Congress attempted to eliminate such services from being done by the physician in the physician’s office.  They are attempting to do that again.

Current legislation is basically saying that if you want to order these services, fine, but you may not do them–send them to an IDTF or the hospital.  I am interested in any feedback.

Thanks.

Self referral

Friday, August 1st, 2008

In today’s news there is an article about medical imaging and self referral.  The theme was with regard to overuse of imaging technology and the medical billing to Medicare.

I am soliciting feedback on the article so as to start a dialogue to provide an understanding of what might become of it all.  You can read the article here.

I look forward to your comments.
